Consumer and Carer Participation

The MHiMA project will give support to CALD Consumer and Carer organisations, to provide input across all levels through participation in the MHiMA working groups.

MHiMA will review Consumer and Carer participation mechanisms and strategies and its contributions to objectives of the MHiMA project.

MHiMA will also support CALD Consumers’ and Carers’ participation and input in relevant forums and develop mechanisms to build capacity for CALD Consumer and Carer participation.

MHiMA CALD consumer and carer working groups

18 April 2013

Earlier this year, the MHiMA project convened two working groups, the MHiMA Consumer Working Group and the MHiMA Carer Working Group, comprised of representatives from each state and territory. This is in line with MHiMA’s commitment to ensuring that consumer and carer perspectives and expertise are embedded across the work of the project. Here is an overview of how the groups were established and what the groups have achieved so far. More information about the groups, the terms of reference under which they meet and their activities will be made available on the MHiMA website shortly. This project is led by MHiMA consortium member, the University of South Australia.  Read more....

MHiMA is seeking Expressions of Interest for a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) Consumer Working Group and a CALD Carer Working Group. The Working Groups will provide advice and represent the views and interests of mental health consumers and carers from migrant and refugee backgrounds at a national level.

If you have lived experience of mental illness, are from a CALD background (or care for someone who is from a CALD background), and want to contribute to a national agenda on multicultural mental health, we want to hear from you.
